Exclusive - Taipei (Taiwan) – AMD’s graphics team has put the finishing touches at its new GPU generation and actually has begun shipping the new 4850 card to OEM partners and retailers: The new Radeon series will sell for prices between $199 and $499.
According to information we came across in Taiwan, AMD/ATI is gunning for a sizeable launch of the new product generation, with Radeon 4850 512 MB boards leading the charge. However, the exact price has not been set yet, even if it is certain that the GDDR3 512 MB version (codenamed Makedon) will debut in a range between $179 and $219. If you ask us, we believe that the board be priced exactly at $199 (US, CAN) as well as 199 Euro.
We were told that AMD/ATI will decide on final pricing during the Computex tradeshow (which is scheduled to open on Monday) in order to have all the puzzle pieces for a June 18 in place. It certainly does not look like a paper launch at this time and the June 18 is an as-of-now date, since the company could revise is launch schedule to avoid a launch right on the heels of Nvidia’s new high-end parts.
The good news here is certainly that ATI is aiming for $199, sub-$299 and $499 price targets. However, the release dates of the faster SKUs may be problematic: Nvidia is working on new mainstream chips as well, which will debut in Q3 of this year, our sources indicate.
The Radeon 4870 512 MB is expected to ship in volume sometime this summer. This will be the first graphics card in the market to integrate GDDR5 memory. However, the 4870 X2, will face stiff competition from the GeForce GTX 260: Radeon 4870 X2 cards will sell for $499, while the GeForce GTX 260 is likely to debut at $449.
It is unclear whether ATI's 480 and 960 shader units will be enough to capture market share in the targeted price ranges. All we know is that the game is on and the winner is yet to be decided. According to ATI partners, Nvidia still has a big advantage in its logistics division, both in sales and PR.

No prvi benchmarki so zunaj sicer še ni popolnoma izkoriščena (driverji pa to...) ampak za takšno ceno se ta kartica splača kupiti samo za zelo visoke resolucije ali pa SLI. No pa še linki od review's:

The 4850 version will be announced on June 23 and become available on June 25, according to our sources, followed by the 4870 on July 8 and the 4870 X2 in mid-August.
The RV770 XT (samo z gddr5) is expected to launch within several days, with an even higher clock speed of 750MHz compared to 625MHz for the RV770 Pro (samo z GDRR3). Because of the memory difference, the overall bandwidth for a board using a RV770 XT is nearly double that of a RV770 Pro board — 115.2GB/sec. vs. 64GB/sec.
BTW 4850 je pri nekaterih špilih celo boljša kot 9800GTX. In po vsej verjetnosti se nam tudi bližajo pocenitve 9800GTX, če je Nvidii za verjet
Ampak da ne boste mislili da Nvidia sedi in gleda v zrak so tudi oni izdali ''spimpano'' 9800GTX-ko. Posebnost te GTX-ke pa je full physic driver support, kar pa pomeni da bi naj ta prenovljena GTX-ka 7.5x hitrejša od 4850. PS če je Nvidii za verjet

V USA so napovedane pocenitve za GTX280 in sicer za 90$ pa tudi GTX260 bi se naj pocenila za 30$. Zdaj kdaj bo to doseglo Evropo pa who knows. Lahko se tudi zgodi še znižanje po tem ko bo ATI predstavil 4870X2 toliko za zdaj

Following the recent launch of the ATI Radeon HD 4850 and 4870 GPUs, AMD plans to introduce the high-end dual-GPU HD 4870 X2 by the end of July, according to sources at graphics card vendors.
Evaluation samples are schedule to be available in mid-July, and AMD will begin shipping reference design boards with 2GB GDDR5 memory at the end of the month, the sources detailed.
In mid-August, AMD will also begin shipping the 4870 X2 (RV770XT) GPU to partners wishing to design custom cards, the sources added.

Roadmap information we stumbled across today offers a bit more clarity and suggests that the company’s next-generation desktop and notebook chips will support DirectX 10.1.
Nvidia’s new GPU generation, we hear, will also be 1.5 to 2 times faster than the current technology.
Oh, and we almost forgot: Nvidia will also switch to GDDR5 memory, most likely within 2008. As GDDR5 chips are more available, we expect first Nvidia GDDR5 cards to hit the market in Q4.

Couple of weeks back, we brought you some exclusive details on AMD's upcoming flagship Radeon 4800 series card; R700. We were the first one to report a July launch, which was confirmed by chinese daily Digitimes six days later.
Again, we are the first one to bring you the exact launch date. R700 (4870X2) is currently slated for launch on the 14th of July. AMD decided to pull the preview ahead by two weeks, so availability is still on track for end of July. R700 samples are already in the hands of reviewing media, Sampsa Muropaketti (famous finnish overclocker) has already recieved one (blog post titled "GTX 280 Killer is here"). Expect records to tumble.

Get the salt out and try to fend off ATI fanboys as the interweb's mysterious ways are 'suggesting' that the upcoming graphics performance crown contender, the single PCB, dual-GPU Radeon HD 4870 X2 will be officially introduced as soon as Monday, July 14. Apparently, Monday the reviews will begin pouring in while actual cards will arrive in stores later on, before the end of this month.
The Radeon HD 4870 X2 is said to be coming in several configurations but its basis remains a chip trio consisting of two RV770 GPUs and one PLX PCI-Express 2.0 bridge chip. Boasting 1600 Stream Processors, the new X2 will have a 2x256-bit memory interface and will be equipped with (at least) 1GB of memory (GDDR5). The 1GB card's expected price tag is $499.

Tako da malce osvežimo temo. Se pravi kot zgleda se bodo nadgrajene GTX260 in GTX280 imenovale GT206 in GT212. Sicer ta slika ni uradna je pa zanimiva ker kot kaže bo tudi Nvidia nasledno leto že predstavila grafo na 40nm procesu
